reflection

I really enjoyed this experience of reading and then writing about it. I must admitt that it was surprisingly hard for me to find the time to sit down and read, especially sitting down to read and focusing only on reading.  I found a lot fo time that while I was reading my mind was racing with things that I needed get done for work, school and things that I needed to get done around the house.  I felt like I didn't have time to read because I was too busy but I now realize that it is okay to take time to sit down and enjoy a book.  I also learned that I need to be a little more organized because then I will have more of a chance to relax.  This assignment gave me a chance to take the time to refocus on the importance of reading. While reading for this assignment, I find my passion for reading again and I now always try and set aside time in my evening to settle down with a book and read. I have also taken the time to read more with my daughter throughout the day, rather than only reading to her at night.

Book: Drink This Not That

Author: David Zinczenko with Matt Goulding

Time read: 4pm-4:30pm 8pm-9pm Decemeber 2

I found this book to be extremely interesting. The book is broken down into 9 chapters and each chapter discusses a type of beverage for example chapter one is called drink up, slim down and it talks about how drinking more water can help you slim down. Chapter 2 is called At your favorite restaurants and it talks about drinks that are bad for you at restaurants and then it tells you an alternative drink to have that has fewer calories and less sugar and carbs.  I was shocked to see how unhealthy a lot of commonly consumed beverages were. It definitely made me reconsider the things I will in the future.

Reading with me daughter

Books I read with my little lover :-) :
1. Roses Are Pink, Your Feet Really Stink By: Diane de Groat
2. There Was An Old Lady Who Swallowed Some Leaves! By: Lucille Colandro (Maddie's favorite)
3. Princess Party By: Joy Allen

Date: November 19
Time: 8:00pm-8:30pm (Maddie's bedtime) :-)

I read books to Maddie every night and so I figured, why not write about it? Reading books with my daughter is probably my favorite part of the night because she is always nice and clean from her bath and she looks so comfortable in her pjs, plus it gives us a chance to snuggle, talk about our day a little more and really bond.  Maddie loves books and currently would rather have a book than a toy. I hope she will always enjoy reading that her passion for it never goes away.  I'm glad we can bond over books and that I get the opportunity to snuggle my little girl every night while reading to her.
Book: Breaking Dawn

Author: Stephanie Meyer

time read: november 26 5:30pm-12:00am

I tried to avoid reading anything associated with twilight because there was such a big deal about it and I didn't really want to follow the trend but the weekend my boyfriend insisted that stop boycotting it and decided that we should watch ALL the movies back to back. We did and then I instantly became hooked. I decided that I since I watched the movies I needed to read the books. I didn't put down the book Breaking Dawn until I was finished with the whole book. I tend to have that problem with any book though. :-) I must say that I found the books and the movies to be very similar, which is really rare because I think most of time when a book is turned into a movie they change many things in the process but that was wasn't the case with the twilight series.

New book

Book: The Memory Keeper's daughter

date read: November 4th

time read: I read at differnt times throughout the day/night.

I really enjoyed this book. Once I got into it, it was hard to put it down. I saw they turned this book into a movie on lifetime and I watched it but was not too impressed. The book is definitely better.  I found it hard to get into reading this week because it has been such a stressfull week but I am glad that I did read because like I mentioned last week in my post, when I do read, it tends to help me feel less stress.

Charlie St. Cloud

Title: Charlie St. Cloud
Author: Ben Sherwood
Time read: October 29, 2011 7:00pm-10:00pm

I saw the movie Charlie St. Cloud and must admitt that I was not too impressed.  I am normally always a bigger fan of the books more so than the movies, which is why I decided that I needed to read the book before I passed judgment on it because of the movie.  I felt like the story started off slow but I must ended up really enjoying it. I kept invisioning the characters in a different way than what the movie showed them as.  I most definitely enjoyed the book more and I am glad that I decided to read it. I think that reading for me is and probably always will be an escape.  It gives me a moment to take a beak, relax and stop stresing about life for awhile. I tend to read at night because I like to put my daughter to bed and then really focus on reading without any interruptions.  I have been more stressed than normal lately so reading has become a welcomed relief these last few weeks.

No more judging a book by its cover...

Book title: Heaven is for Real
Author: Todd Burpo with Lynn Vincent
Time read: October 21 9:00pm-10:30pm

My grandma reccommended that I read this book when I went to visit her this summer. I took it home with me in July and here it is nearly the end of October and I am just now reading this book. I kept putting it off because I wasn't sure if I would enjoy reading it. I judged the book by its cover and assumed I would not like it but it turns out...I do.  I decided since I need to a read a book for class, why not read this one.  I was surprised to find that I actually found myself caught up in the story of this young boy and his struggle to survive and then his to hear about his encounter with heaven made me want to read on to see what he would say he saw next.  I'm glad that I decided to read the book and stop "judging" it.
